SRI LANKA’S NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE TO BE TRAINED IN PLANT-BASED NUTRITION Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Sri Lanka is typical of many areas of the developing world. Changes in lifestyle and eating habits, due to growing urbanization, are causing a surge in chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular and respiratory complaints, and, of course, cancer. Over the past ten years, for example, cancer cases have nearly doubled.

Hospitals and doctors surgeries are few and far between, so the emphasis on prevention has led staff at Sri Lanka’s National Cancer Institute to begin studying Dr T. Colin Campbell’s Plant Based Nutrition Course.

US GOVERNMENT RECOMMENDS PLANT-BASED DIET Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

A study by the US National Cancer Institute, has looked at the diets of 500,000 people. Those eating the highest amount of meat were more likely to die during the course of the ten year study. The study noted that not only does meat have the unhealthiest forms of fat it also contains cancer-causing chemicals.  Unsurprisingly, the meat industry has denounced the study as flawed.

PLANEAT would welcome the opportunity to prepare a plant-based meal for the President of the Meat Institute, whose best defense for meats role in a balanced diet is that it provides “satisfaction and fullness”.
